I am having trouble understanding the different types of Life Insurance?

April 3rd, 2009

My husbavd and I have been married for 5 years.I have started looking into life insurance now that we are on our feet. I am SO confused about term life insurance and “non” term life insurance. My husband doesn’t want to deal with it because he “doesn’t believe” in it. I am under the impression that life insurance helps to cover funeral costs and some of the other expenses that the spouse had prior to death. I have looked all over the internet and seem to get more confused as I try to piece this together. Can anyone tell me what I should be considering when researching policies?

Two business partners carry 15 year term life insurance. The insurer pays 100, 000 for each partner who dies?

April 3rd, 2009

Two business partners carry 15 year term life insurance. The insurer pays 100, 000 for each partner who dies within 15 years, and 0 for each partner who does not die within 15 years. The remaining lifetimes of the two partners are independent and each are uniformly distributed on [0, 15]. Determine the moment generating function of the total amount the insurer pays for the partners.

When insurance companies take blood and urine before ok-ing a life insurance policy what are they looking for?

April 3rd, 2009

I am taking out a $450,000 life insurance policy and wanted to know why the tests were so intrusive? I don’t smoke or do drugs and I am both HIV and Hepatitis negative. Are they looking for STD’s, blood diseases, what? Just curious…..Thanks.

How do I convice my ex that I want to take out a life insurance policy on him for our son’s sake?

April 3rd, 2009

My ex and I were never married when we had our son so I am worried that if something were to happen to him, I would be stuck with just social security and I feel that is not enough to help our son with the needs in his life such as college, a house and other expenses. I have a policy on myself and our son is the beneficiary if something were to happen to me but his dad is very irresponsible and inmature so he doesn’t have anything like this for him. So being that I am the more mature one, I want to take out a life insurance policy on my ex (which I would pay for) but I don’t know how to tell him. I already know that I have to get his permission and have him sign all the documents in order to get a policy on him. I also know he is not going to be understanding so how would I introduce this to him to let him know it is for the benefit of our child?

How do I find out if I’m a beneficiary on a life insurance policy if his widow is hiding the papers left to me

March 30th, 2009

My grandfather died and left me a strong box full of legal papers. His widow had the key and half the papers are missing now. She is not blood related and seems to be giving everything to her kids and family. Claims she doesn’t know where they are. There was some life insurance policys and she also will not show me his last will and testament. How do I find out if I’m a beneficiary not knowing names of the insurance companies or the papers left to me?
